Tomb of Akbar, Agra Overview

Built in 1571 by Akbar, the Mughal emperor. Located in Agra city in Uttar Pradesh, India. The tomb is a monument to one of the great kings of India – Akbar was an emperor who “changed the face of the world”, who united most of South Asia and then established a powerful empire at its capital from Agra. The monument, built in 1571, is considered to be one of the finest examples of Mughal architecture.
The design of the tomb is based on that of the then-recent Islamic city of Damascus and features minarets, domes, arches and a lot of intricate stonework. The tombs are thought to have been lavishly furnished by Akbar.
