Amer Fort

Amer Fort is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Jaipur, Rajasthan. It is a massive fort, which was built with red sandstone in the style of Mughal architecture, Amer Fort was built by Raja Man Singh I in 1592 as a residence for himself and his son Jagat Singh II, after he declined an offer to seize Ajmer from the then current ruler of Mewar – Maharana Udai Singh II. Amer Fort was constructed as a typical Mughal military outpost, with a commanding view of the entire area

The  Fort is open every day. The entry fee is 60 Rupees for Indians and 100 Rupees for foreigners. The fort’s structure covers an area of one square kilometer on top of a 180 meter high hill (which is in fact a large mountain). It has about 130 halls, big and small, with 170 meters long corridors and 22 giant gates. The fort has a network of underground tunnels and secret chambers, which can hold up to 1,000 people. These corridors also lead to the secret underground reservoir, known as “Sarovar”, at the base of the hill.
