Jaisalmer is a historic city in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Located in the heart of the Thar desert, it is home to nearly 300 temples in its vicinity. The city attracts tourists from all over  the world due to its long history. And a market town which has been witnessing trade and interaction with international traders since pre-historical times. Those who visit this city will find themselves surrounded by dramatic sandstone mountains that are dotted with shrines and crumbling fort walls. The city is a popular rest stop for travellers on route to the Gobi desert and the Thar region.

History of Jaisalmer

The history of Jaisalmer is as old as the history of Trade. This is a city where every age has left its mark and yet it is so young as to be cradled in tradition. It has been a home to diverse communities living in perfect harmony, preserving each other’s culture and lineage.
The word ‘Jaisalmer’ comes from two words Jai and Salim Singh, who was a Rajput Ruler.

Jaisalmer has a hot desert climate (Köppen “BWh”) with hot summers and cool winters. The average temperature of the city is 31.8 °C, with maximum and minimum temperatures of 44.6 °C and 10.3 °C respectively. Sunshine is abundant in the region because of its location in Thar Desert. Jaisalmer receives a scanty rainfall of 20 millimeters (0.8 in) annually. The maximum rainfall occurs in the months of June, July, August and October.
