Jantar Mantar, Delhi Overview
Jantar Mantar is a collection of architectural astronomical instruments in Delhi, India. Built in the early 18th century by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Jaipur, it is located at the Northern end of a 200-meter long wall that separates the garden from the city streets. It was constructed to solve problems related to timekeeping and planetary calculation.
Jantar Mantar is an astronomical observatory built by Maharaja Jai Singh, the ruler of Amber, who is generally regarded as the founder of Jaipur. Kashmiri pundits employed by Jai Singh were assigned the task of building astronomical observatories at various locations, including Delhi. These experts had already been working on a similar project at Jaigarh Fort in Jaipur.
Jantar Mantar was completed in 1724 and has several architectural instruments used for solving problems related to timekeeping and planetary calculation.
