History

Jodhpur founded in 1459 by Rao Jodha, a Rajput chief of the Rathore clan. Construction began on a Mehrangarh Fort a few years later to serve as the capital of Rao Jodha’s kingdom and it was finished in 1489. The city named after Jodha’s name since then to honor him for being its founder. Over the years, the palace became one of the best architectural examples of Rajput rulers and their contribution to Indian history. Today, the Mehrangarh Fort is one of the best places in Jodhpur to learn about the history and culture of Rajasthan.
