Taj Museum, Agra Overview
The Taj Museum is the first Indian public museum, and the largest one in Asia. It was established in 1924 by the British rulers of India to house Mughal and other artifacts from the museum collections that had become scattered over time. Located in Agra city in Uttar Pradesh, India, this cultural treasure houses a huge collection of sculptures, paintings, tapestries and magnificent architecture.
The Museum was founded in 1924 and was originally located in the Quwwat-ul-Islam Masjid (also known as the Shah Jahan Mosque) which has now been replaced with a new building. The Taj is always open for public visits until midnight or 1:00 AM, depending on the season.
This museum is a pure and perfect example of Mughal architecture and is considered to be one of the most important heritage buildings in India.
