1) Abbey Falls

2) Mallalli Falls

The reservoir provides water to Parambikulam Tiger Reserve, a protected area that has been vested with both national and international importance for its exceptionally high level of biodiversity found nowhere else on Earth. The Chiklihole reservoir is a major attraction for tourists, who want to know the history of the region. The dam was constructed by Mr. M.Krishna Menon, who was the Chief Engineer of Malabar district in 1970s. It has a capacity of 1,200 m³.

Harangi Backwaters is a stretch of canal flanked by the Harangi River in Madikeri. The waterway runs parallel to the town’s main street and is lined with century-old banyan trees. The river slices through rocky cliffs and creates a patchwork of shallow islands, while lush green countryside is visible between them. The backwaters are an interesting place to visit during December and January when the water level goes down significantly due to lack of rainfall during this period. It was declared as the first wildlife sanctuary in India, along with Blackbuck National Park (now known as Velavadar). The area has retained its natural habitat, with abundant trees and grasslands; rare species like the lesser florican or brow-antlered deer can be found here almost year round. Dubare is also famous for the red junglefowl or “kalij” as it is locally known.
