1) Upper Lake and Lower Lake

The Upper Lake is a popular tourist spot in Bhopal. Open throughout the year, this lake is a place for boating and fishing. It is spread over an area of 1.85 acres. The Lower Lake is larger than the Upper Lake and it can be seen from the Upper Lake. It was built as a ‘zoo’ to hold water creatures that are found in different lakes across India . The Lower lake lies at an average elevation of 751 meters above sea level and covers an area of 8 hectares (19 acres).

2) Van Vihar National Park

Van Vihar National Park is spread across an area of 15 hectares (38 acres) and lies at an elevation of 532 meters above sea level. Commonly known as Bagh willy, this national park is a popular place for tourists to see rare species of birds, animals and other fauna. With lush green hills, the national park looks quite beautiful even during the scorching summer months. One can spot over 250 species of birds, 26 species of mammals and 13 species of reptiles here. Peafowls, a species of pheasants and parrots are found in abundance here.

3) Moti Masjid

A famous mosque in Bhopal, Moti masjid is located at Sultanpur Road near the famous chaura ghats. The mosque was built by Nawab of Malwa in 1710. The mosque has an imposing dome and a beautiful minar.

5) Sanchi Stupa

Sanchi Stupa is located in the Sanchi town of Bhopal. It is one of the Buddhist pilgrimage sites in India. The stupa was commissioned by Ashoka in 250 BC. The stupa is a circular structure with a height of 40 meters and it stands on a base that measures 64 meters in circumference. The stupa is made up of cream-coloured sandstone. The structure has a stone railing all around it, which is probably a later addition. There are many Buddhist monasteries and temples nearby the stupa. 7) Bhimbetka Caves

Bhimbetka caves are ancient natural rock-cut cave shelters, which lie in the Bhopal district of Madhya Pradesh. There are more than 200 small and large rock-cut caves, located deep inside the Vindhya Range and spread across an area of 2 km². They have been carved and modified by humans during the Paleolithic era (around 300,000 to 9500 BC). These caves were also used by Hindus during the stone age for performing rituals.

8) Lakshmi Narayan Temple

The Lakshmi Narayan Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. The temple was built in the 15th century by Maharaja Narasingh Deo. It is situated near the Upper Lake, at a distance of about 2 km from Taj-ul-Masjid . It has been built on an elevated platform and has a beautiful architecture. It is one of the oldest temples in Bhopal and is surrounded by lush green gardens.

9) Birla Museum

The Birla Museum in Bhopal is one of the important places to visit in the city. 10) Taj ul Masjid

Taj-ul- Masjid is an historic mosque in Bhopal. The mosque was built in the year 1723 by Dilawar Khan Koka, a noble at the court of Mughal emperor Muhammad Shah. It is a two storied complex and has a splendid architecture. The mosque has minarets, which are thirty feet high and made of red sandstone, that are decorated with geometric designs. The entire structure is made up of red sandstone. The mosque has an imposing structure, which makes it stand out from the rest of the city. There is also a massive gate in front of the mosque, through which one can enter the mosque compound.

11) Bhojpur Temple

Located on Bhojpur Road, in Bhopal, It is a Hindu temple and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The entrance of the temple has a large arch, which is decorated with beautifully carved marbles and decorated pillars. There are two separate sanctums at the entrance. One of them houses the sacred lingam while the other one houses a stone image of lord Shiva. The statue is 3.2 meters high and the lingam is 2 rem. The temple was built by the kings of Bhojpur in 904 AD.

12) Gohar Mahal

Gohar Mahal is a palace situated in Old City, Bhopal. It was built by Nawab Siddiq Hasan Khan in 1720. The palace has been turned into a museum and houses some of the king’s collection of artworks and other collectibles . There are beautiful ornamental stone work throughout the main palace, which has been painted in different shades of blue. There is a large garden on the side, which also has numerous pavilions.

13) Raisen Fort

It is situated at a distance of about 15 km from Bhopal, on the Raisen-Sehore road. It is located at an elevation of about 545 metres and has been constructed on top of a hill. The fort was built in 1515 by Rao Shekha, son of Rao Ganga, who founded the Bhopal princely state. It is one of the best places to visit in Bhopal and has been beautifully restored by the Government of Madhya Pradesh.

14) Madhya Pradesh Tribal Museum

The Tribal Museum is a museum located in Bhopal, which showcases the society of India’s tribal people. The museum has been developed by the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Department and was opened to public in 2001. It is located opposite to MP Tourism office, near the Police Quarters, beside Lake City Mall.

15) National Museum of Mankind

The National Museum of Mankind, Bhopal has been established in 2002 and was inaugurated by Dr.Kalpana Chawla. 16) Rani Kamlapati Palace

Shaurya Smarak is a war memorial in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. It was built to commemorate the soldiers of the country, who participated in the Indo- Pak War of 1971 and attained martyrdom while fighting the war. It was inaugurated by former President of India on 7 September 1995. The memorial has been built at a cost of Rs. 2 Crore and is spread over an area of 10,000 sq meters.

Sadar Manzil is a palace situated in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. It has been constructed by Nawab Sultan Jahan Begum. The palace has been converted into a five star hotel named Old Palace Hotel.
