Shimla Tourism
Located in the foothills of the Himalayas, Shimla is one of the most beautiful hill stations in India. Established as a summer capital for British troops during colonial times, this town was once known for its salubrious climate and health-giving properties. Today, Shimla attracts visitors from across India to enjoy its attractive landscape and cool climes.
Situated at an altitude of about 4,200 feet above sea level and with a pleasant climate, the city of Shimla is one of the best hill stations in India. The Shimla hills offer a wonderful view as far as the eye can see and are truly picturesque.
Shimla was originally known as Simla but it was rechristened by General Sir John Nicholson, the commander-in-chief of the British forces in India during 1803 and the author of several reports on military strategies.
